Bromley Bros – Neil and Duncan – are building us a kitchen extension at the moment so I thought I’d comment about how it’s going.

Neil either sends a text each morning or lets us know the evening before what time they’ll be arriving the next day.

They’re polite and considerate. And Neil’s brickwork is truly a thing of beauty! They tidy up at the end of the day and Duncan even washes up. What a gent!

They have all sorts of excellent trade contacts. They’re up to speed with all the latest building rules and regs, which are horribly complicated. And their small, industrious team of builders are equally cool. Thanks Gary and Phil for all your hard work so far.

Best of all on several occasions so far Neil and Duncan have come up with common sense solutions, clever ideas and intelligent alternatives that’ll save us time, cash and hassle.

They’re great blokes who obviously know exactly what they’re doing. I work from home and I must admit the whole process is remarkably painless.

Brilliant stuff. We’d recommend them to anyone.

It’s good to see a small independent building firm that seems to know what they are doing and are offering a good service at a reasonable cost to their customers.

I thought I’d do a quick update on our extension job.

Although it’s been unavoidably delayed by the worst winter for three decades, we’re nearly there.

Because the temperature fell below freezing for several weeks running, the build had to slow down while we waited until it was warm enough for bricklaying. Nevertheless Duncan, Neil and Gary steamed cheerfully ahead, getting as much done as they could, working around the weather on a daily – sometimes hourly – basis and changing plans to make the most of slightly warmer days.

Talk about flying by the seat of your pants… we’ve been genuinely impressed by the Bromleys’ fortitude and flexibility!

As I type we’ve got walls, windows, a fully insulated floor and ceiling, and wires dangling where the kitchen extension spotlights will go. it’s suddenly looking like a real room. Brilliant.

Terry the pastering bloke’s here today making a start on the ceilings. Our final set of doors is going in today too. We’ve chosen the kichen, cooker, hob and floor tiles. Just two more weeks to go…

Nice to hear of a decent builder and not the cowboys that appear to pop up all over the place.
